Development Application Models for Council

These models are the ones that nobody wants to do! Many councils in and around Sydney have a requirement for the submission of a physical model with Development Applications. The requirements vary from council to council and it is best practice to investigate what these are and check with the local planner before commissioning a DA model.

We say “nobody wants to do them” because they are often thought of as a box to tick and another fee that needs to be paid. From a client perspective they escalate the cost of submission, especially where the requirement from council may dictate a large amount of context needs to be shown.

For the architect they add a level of pressure to the design process as the information needs to be finalised for the model maker to commence work, and constant liaison is required particularly if the design and drawings are occurring in parallel with each other. For the model maker the above means they are often low budget but high pressure projects that require a lot of detail to be modelled in a short construction time frame.

Modelcraft have many years of experience with these type of models and have prepared them for most of the councils in and around the Sydney metropolitan area. At Modelcraft we work really hard to keep the cost of these models low whilst maintaining accuracy, quality, and reasonable construction time frames to fit within the submission process.

We do however favour accuracy and quality over cost, as it is important to tick the Council box that the model accurately represents your development and its relationship to the surrounding context.
The quality and sharpness resulting from the blend of accuarcy, 3D printed detail, monochrome finish and small scale result in a crisp model and the site building often has a jewel-like character that is hard to hand over!
